In yet another shining example of the left talking about things they know nothing of, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) took to X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) to release a message about the newest stance for Democrats on “assault weapons.”
Swalwell wrote on August 28th, “Ban assault weapons. Buy them ALL back. Choose our kids over their killers.”
As part of his released plan, the AR-15 platform would be bought back and banned from being manufactured or sold again. This is a hair-trigger response to the shooting at a Dollar General in Jacksonville, FL, recently that left three people dead.
First off, this ban would not have prevented the shooting. The man had legally obtained a Glock handgun and an AR-15 style (but not classified as) rifle, and as such, he still could have easily carried out the attack. With the jury still out on any use of it at all, it’s impossible to say this is a good ban on their side, but damn are they trying.
Secondly, as Breitbart first reported (respectively) on August 10th and 11th of 2022:
“Breitbart News reported FBI data showing more than twice as many people were killed with knives and other cutting tools than were killed with rifles in 2021…Additionally. data showed more people were beaten to death with fists and feet in 2021 than were killed with rifles.”
Data like this is consistently overlooked by the Democratic party. In their eyes, this is the kind of information that the American people don’t need to know. Instead, they should only know that guns are scary and dangerous, assault weapons are coming for you and your children, and the only way to save them is to trust the public schools and their gun-free zones.
This kind of ban is done to play to the hearts of sympathetic Americans who still would rather blame the tool than the person doing it. By magically uncovering a racist manifesto here but finding nothing for multiple mass deaths in other race-related mass murders, they have shifted the narrative back to the “dangerous whitey” story that they use for every story they can find.
Investigating the data further, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) did a study on the AR and AK platforms of rifles. In their data, they proclaimed that there are more of them on the market “than Ford F-Series trucks on the road.” Per their estimate, as of July 21, 2022, there are nearly 24.5 million of them in circulation.
A number like this might sound high to the anti-gun parties. Yet, given how many own multiple rifles in different calibers, barrel designs, and trigger setups, it’s not surprising for someone to have 5-10 AR and AK platform rifles. Much like many grandfathers teach the grandkids, the right tool for the job makes things go easier. With a custom rifle for hunting big horn sheep, another for elk, another for long-range target shooting with friends and family, and still another for the cabin at the lake, it’s easy to get up there in numbers.
Just as expected, they share with their followers a message that all big plastic and black rifles are dangerous and should be eliminated. That without their presence, the world would be safer a free of crime. Yet these are the same politicians who spend hundreds of thousands if not millions of your taxpayer dollars on security to keep them safe, and in some cases even have Secret Service on their details.
The men and women wearing suits guarding them are highly trained, highly paid, and well-armed. The latest and greatest weapons are at their disposal, including full auto. It is a ridiculous thing that your congressman is more well-protected than you and your family just because they say it’s safer for you. Doesn’t make sense, does it?
