On September 19th, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) found herself at a hearing about greenhouse emissions which was her worst nightmare come to life- live fact-checking. Opening up by claiming a quarter of the “greenhouse gas” was being created by oil and gas production being done on Federal lands, she quickly got called out.
Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Western Energy Alliance broke the ice with the House Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources by directly calling out AOC for her claims. “I just want to start off by correcting something the ranking member said in her opening statement. She claimed that oil and gas production on federal lands is responsible for about a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions. That’s a complete falsehood.”
As she continued, she explained, “That’s based on a misreading of a @USGS study of greenhouse gas emissions. And if you actually look at the numbers, production on federal lands and waters accounts for 0.6% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, not ‘nearly a quarter.’ Even the Department of Interior stopped using that number after I simply pointed out the numbers from the USGS report.”
Sgamma implored that reports be looked into formally, and inquiries investigated. She believes the data put out by the government, environmentalists, and other organizations are highly coordinated and targeted. With that manipulated data, they can make things look far worse than they truly are and convince more people to make unwise decisions based on manipulated data. That’s not a healthy or wise decision for anyone.
Given the number of restrictions and regulations that were unnecessarily imposed on energy companies by the Biden administration, there is sufficient evidence that the administration is responsible for the inflation. Information like this would have been used to inflate stock prices, and help to get family and friends as well as self-investment interests to balloon with the inflation.
Watching AOC struggle as she was corrected and the implications of her being corrected like this were simply glorious. She has a real problem with authority, and now that authority has once again put her down a peg or two. Now if only she’ll stay back down where she belongs.
