Oregon Gov Makes Sure Businesses Stay Closed By Reporting Parents to CPS

Like many states, Oregon, under the Democratic leadership of Governor Kate Brown, has implemented stay at home orders during this time of crisis and public concern. However, like other states, including some surrounding ones, have started to open up their economies gradually, allowing some business to reopen, Brown insists that hers will stay closed.

Glamour Salon in Salem, Oregon, is one such business. Deemed as non-essential, the governor’s orders demand that the salon stays closed to the public. But with bills continuing to come in and no income to speak of, its owner, Lindsey Graham, is defying Brown’s order.

As a result, both her business and her personal life have been nearly upended by government threats. Graham even stated on Friday during a press conference that CPS had been sent to her home and is investigating the safety of her children. All because she opened her salon back up.

She said, “And, if you can possibly believe this, on May 7th, Child Protective Services showed up at my home. They questioned my husband and I. They questioned my child, without me present. They searched our home.” Graham continued, stating, “I’ve never expected such a violent, aggressive, vindictive thing could ever be done to me or my family because I’m trying to earn a living, because I’m trying to work.”

According to Graham, this isn’t only a complete waste of time and an incredibly low move, but one that is “completely random, unmerited, unwarranted and unprovable.”

The salon owner went on to say that while she respects the incredible job agencies like CPS have, investigating a family for merely going back to work and threatening to tear that family apart is a complete waste of time, especially when some families and children actually need that kind of attention.

It was a completely false claim and if they don’t pursue a false claim and there are actually children out there that are being abused by their families, then they’re wasting their time investigating me because Kate Brown doesn’t like me, that’s pretty devastating. This is a false claim that wasted CPS’s valuable time when there are children who are really in need.”

Furthermore, CPS is not the only agency under Brown that has threatened Graham. The state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has also contacted Graham, fining her a whopping $14,000 for reopening.

On top of that, the state’s licensing board has threatened to pull every one of the 23 stylists working at the salon’s licenses. This means these individuals would not only not be allowed to work at Graham’s salon, but nowhere in the entire state would be able to employ them.

Graham says she is “bound to stay open as long as I can until the government basically tries to take my entire career, something I’ve worked 15 years for, out from underneath me.”

And while Governor Kate Brown has not contacted Graham personally about reopening, the salon owner lays all of the trouble she has gone through recently at the lawmaker’s feet. “I feel persecuted by Kate Brown herself because she’s governing these agencies. She’s allowing them to target me and, if not, requesting them to target me because every agency she has underneath her has come to me at this point.”

Graham, like so many other Americans, just wants to be treated like the law-abiding adult citizen that she is. Instead, Brown and other tyrannical leaders like her, insist upon treating their citizens as unruly children who don’t know the first thing about taking care of themselves.

But as Graham points out, she is very well aware of this.

She said, “I believe that if she would let her people work and earn a living, let us do it safely and let us be adults, consenting adults that know how to take care of ourselves and take care of each other. We’re gonna look out for each other. We know how to do that. If she would just allow us to do that – I don’t want anyone to get sick. I know you guys don’t want anyone to get sick, but I also don’t want to go bankrupt and lose everything I’ve worked for.”

Graham’s message for us all is: “Let’s be active, mature, caring, sensitive to other people. Let’s open our business and be conscious. Let’s all be able to maintain our livelihood. If she would let us do that, there would be no issue.”
